What effect did music have on slavery in early Americas?
Throughout slavery in America, slave songs had a positive effect because they helped slaves get their work done; they were used to practice their religion, and to pass hidden messages about escape to freedom. This created a cultural reaction amongst slaves, placing particular comfort and value in the use of traditional music.
